In the German-Belgian Nature Park

The spa town of Prüm (Pruem) is part of the German-Belgian Nature Park. The cityscape is dominated by the former 18th century Benedictine abbey. Prüm is located in a hilly area between 430 and 590 metres above sea level. Being surrounded by forests with terrific hiking trails the city is also called: Waldstadt (the forest city).

Basilica St. Salvator

In 1721 the construction of the church was started one thousand years after the foundation of the abbey of Prüm. In 1950 the church was appointed „Basilica minor“ (small Basilica) by Pope Pius XII. A relic shrine with parts of the sandals of Christ as well as emperor Lothar’s grave can be seen in the basilica. Sandstone figures of Charlemagne and Pippin are to be found close to the entrance.

Abbey

In 1748 Andreas Seitz started with the construction of the abbey. The construction plans were designed by famous baroque style master builder Balthasar Neumann. Today the building is used by the Regino Secondary School. During the summer holidays the EVBK (Europäische Vereinigung Bildender Künstler / European Artist Association) art exhibition is displayed in the premises.

Station on the road to Santiago

Prüm serves as a station on the ancient road to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. From the previous station Kronenburg the way leads towards Pruem via the rolling hills of the Schneifel. Passing the Kalvarienberg you will reach the City of Prüm with its abbey that was founded in the year 721.

The next leg leads towards the „Schönecker Schweiz“ (little Swiss of Schoenecken) with its bizarre lime stone rocks. Having passed Schoenecken and its ruined castle the next station on your route will be Lascheid. Enjoy a perfect view over the western part of the Eifel.

You will find further information on sights as well as on leisure facilities and events on Prüm's Website and on the Website "Prümer Land".
